Eric Descheenie is an Arizona native, born in Tuba City and raised in the Phoenix Metro Area. A father of three sons, he is Diné (Navajo) from Chinle, with deep ancestral ties. He earned a BA in Sociology from Arizona State University and has a distinguished career as a public servant, holding roles in the Arizona Governor’s Office, Department of Housing, Navajo Nation government, and Navajo County government. He was an Arizona State Representative from 2017 to 2018, advocating for Native rights, education, and sustainable development. Descheenie has also served internationally as a delegate to the UN Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. He announced a campaign for the Democratic nomination for Arizona’s 2nd congressional district in the 2026 election, but later withdrew from the race following an election challenge. He lives in Flagstaff, Arizona.
