Eric Gjerde

Eric Gjerde is an incumbent Democratic State Representative for Iowa's District 74, first assuming office in 2023 and seeking re-election in the 2026 primary. A former public school special education teacher and coach with multiple advanced degrees in education, he also served as an EMT. Gjerde advocates for government transparency, aiming to hold legislators and state employees accountable and prevent taxpayer dollars from going to out-of-state corporations. He is committed to improving Iowa's education system by listening to students, parents, and educators, and supports workers' rights and creating good-paying jobs. He serves as Ranking Member of the Public Safety Committee, and on the Ethics, Government Oversight, Natural Resources, and Ways and Means committees.
