Evaristo Salas III was wrongfully convicted of first-degree murder in 1996 at the age of 15 and spent 27 years in prison before being exonerated and released in August 2023. Since his release, he has dedicated his time to his community in Sunnyside, Washington. He works as a consultant for the Grandview School District, where he guides at-risk students. His father is an immigrant, and Salas aims to show the positive contributions of immigrants and encourage them to be leaders in their communities.
