Gabriel Acevero is a Democratic member of the Maryland House of Delegates representing Legislative District 39 in Montgomery County. Born in Trinidad and Tobago, he immigrated to Maryland in 2007. In 2018, Acevero's election made him the first openly gay Afro-Latino to serve in the Maryland General Assembly. Before holding office, he worked as a union organizer and activist, supporting campaigns such as marriage equality and the Maryland Dream Act. As a legislator, he has championed criminal justice reform, sponsoring "Anton's Law" to increase police transparency and accountability. Delegate Acevero serves on the House Appropriations Committee and is an active member of the Legislative Black Caucus and the Latino Legislative Caucus.
