Gabriel Amo

Gabriel 'Gabe' Amo is the U.S. Representative for Rhode Island's 1st Congressional District, first elected in a November 2023 special election to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Rep. David N. Cicilline. A native of Pawtucket, Rhode Island and the son of immigrants from Ghana and Liberia, he has spent most of his career in public service. In the Biden White House he served as Special Assistant to the President and Deputy Director of the White House Office of Intergovernmental Affairs, the principal liaison to mayors and local elected officials. Previously he was Director of Public Engagement and Community Affairs for Governor Gina Raimondo, and served in the Obama White House Office of Intergovernmental Affairs as a liaison to governors. He graduated from the Moses Brown School, earned a B.A. in Political Science from Wheaton College (summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, Truman Scholar), and studied at the University of Oxford as a Marshall Scholar.
