Gabriel "Gabe" Vasquez is the incumbent U.S. Representative for New Mexico’s 2nd Congressional District, a Democrat who has served since January 3, 2023. A first-generation Mexican-American, he previously served as a Las Cruces City Councilor, where he focused on infrastructure, job creation, and poverty reduction. His background also includes roles as Executive Director of the Las Cruces Hispano Chamber of Commerce, work in public lands conservation, and advocating for child welfare. Vasquez was instrumental in designating the Organ Mountains Desert Peaks National Monument. For his 2026 re-election bid, he campaigns on "Building a Thriving Economy," supporting a $15 minimum wage, workers' right to organize, increased small business support, and repealing Trump tax cuts for the wealthy.
