Gary Blenner was born in Queens, New York, and moved to Fremont, California, at age 13. He earned a bachelor's degree with a double major in political science and history from the University of California, Davis in 1988, and a graduate degree from National University in 2006. His professional career has been as a high school social science teacher for over 28 years. Blenner served as a school board trustee for the Center Joint Unified School District from 2006 to 2010. He has previously run for the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors in 2012 and 2016, and for California Secretary of State in 2022, where he was defeated in the primary. He is the co-coordinator of the Sacramento County Green Party.
