Gene Achziger has served on the Des Moines City Council since January 2022. He is a retired journalist and a former adjunct professor. In March 2024, he resigned from his position on the Board of Commissioners for the Des Moines Pool Metropolitan Park District after a court ruling identified a potential conflict of interest with his city council role.
