Dr. Gregory Francis Murphy, born in Raleigh, North Carolina, is a physician and politician currently serving in the U.S. House of Representatives. He graduated magna cum laude from Davidson College and earned his medical degree with honors from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine. He completed his residency in Urology and Renal Transplantation at the University of Kentucky. Before entering politics, Dr. Murphy was the President of Eastern Urological Associates and served as Chief of Staff at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville. He also served as an Affiliate Professor of Surgery at the ECU School of Medicine. His political career began in the North Carolina House of Representatives, where he served from 2015 to 2019. In 2019, he won a special election to represent North Carolina's 3rd Congressional District and has held the seat since. He is the only practicing surgeon in Congress.
