A valedictorian of his 1967 high school class, he worked in the Dorchester County Public Schools for 27 years, serving as a principal and administrator. His public service includes roles on the Cambridge Ethics Commission and the Mid-Shore Community Foundation. As a former president of the Dorchester County NAACP, he was instrumental in changing voting rights laws, which led to the election of the first Black county commissioner in Dorchester County.
