Hakeem Jeffries is an American politician and attorney serving as the U.S. Representative for New York's 8th congressional district since 2013, and as House Minority Leader since 2023. The first African American to lead a major party in either chamber of Congress, he previously served in the New York State Assembly from 2007 to 2012. Jeffries earned a B.A. from Binghamton University, an M.P.P. from Georgetown University, and a J.D. from NYU School of Law. He resides in Brooklyn, New York.
