Born and raised in Miami, Florida, she previously worked in television and radio broadcasting for over 20 years. Garcia also served as Deputy Press Secretary for the Department of Homeland Security. In the State Senate, she has served as Chair of the Appropriations Committee on Criminal and Civil Justice.
