Isaac Bryan was born in Dallas, Texas, and has lived in California since the sixth grade. He was one of nine children adopted from the child welfare system. Bryan earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science and sociology from the University of Arizona and a Master of Public Policy from the UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs. He is the founding director of UCLA's Black Policy Project and previously served as the Director of Public Policy for the UCLA Ralph J. Bunche Center. He was elected to the California State Assembly in a special election in 2021. In the Assembly, he has served as Majority Leader and is the Vice-Chair of the California Legislative Black Caucus.
