J.D. Ford is a member of the Indiana State Senate representing District 29. First elected in 2018, he is the first openly LGBTQ+ person elected to the Indiana General Assembly. Ford grew up in a working-class family and earned a bachelor's degree in criminal justice and political science from the University of Akron, followed by a master's degree in education from Purdue University. He is currently running as a Democratic candidate for the U.S. House to represent Indiana's 5th Congressional District.
