For over two decades, he has been the president of Carolina Base-Pac, a pallet manufacturing company based in Hudson, North Carolina, which he grew from 13 to 50 employees. His son, McMillan Weidner Abernethy, who was an avid outdoorsman and pilot, passed away in June 2024.
