J. Weidner Abernethy is the current Mayor of Beech Mountain, with his term expiring in December 2025. An alumnus of Lees-McRae College, class of 1986, he has a background in sales and entrepreneurship. For over two decades, he has been the president of Carolina Base-Pac, a pallet manufacturing company based in Hudson, North Carolina, which he grew from 13 to 50 employees. His son, McMillan Weidner Abernethy, who was an avid outdoorsman and pilot, passed away in June 2024.
