Oliveira identifies affordability as Massachusetts' main challenge in 2026, citing crippling utility delivery charges, housing costs, and healthcare costs, and arguing residents should not have to choose between paying for electricity, groceries, or medicine.

A "proud product of public education" and founding member of PHENOM (the Public Higher Education Network of Massachusetts), Oliveira is a long-time advocate for public higher education and, as Assistant Executive Officer of the Massachusetts State Universities Council of Presidents, helped rename seven state colleges to state universities.
