James S. Hill is a District Court Judge for North Dakota's South Central Judicial District, Seat No. 8. A Grand Forks native born in 1949, he earned his J.D. from the University of North Dakota School of Law in 1974. After serving as an Assistant U.S. Attorney and working in private practice in Bismarck, he was appointed to the bench by Governor Jack Dalrymple in 2014. Judge Hill successfully won election to a full term in 2016, running unopposed. He continues to serve in this capacity, with chambers in Linton, and is associated with the North Dakota Bar Association and the American Bar Association House of Delegates.
