Jay Mitchell, born August 26, 1976, in Mobile, Alabama, is a Republican candidate for Attorney General of Alabama in the 2026 primary election. He lives in Homewood with his wife, Elizabeth, and their four children. Mitchell holds a B.A. from Birmingham-Southern College, an M.A. from University College Dublin, and a J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law. He previously served as an Associate Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court from 2019 until his resignation on May 19, 2025. Before his judicial service, he was an attorney in private practice. A lifelong Republican and member of The Federalist Society, Mitchell announced his candidacy for Attorney General on May 19, 2025, and has supported actions like President Trump's decision to summon Marines to Los Angeles.
