Jessica Caloza is a first-generation immigrant from the Philippines who currently serves as the Assemblymember for the 52nd District. She is the first Filipina elected to the California State Legislature. Her career in public service includes roles as a community organizer for President Barack Obama's campaign, a policy advisor in the Obama Administration's Department of Education, and work in Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti's Office of Immigrant Affairs. In 2019, she was appointed as a Commissioner on the Board of Public Works for Los Angeles. She later served as Deputy Chief of Staff to California Attorney General Rob Bonta. Caloza graduated from the University of California, San Diego, with a degree in international relations and ethnic studies.
