Elected in 2020, she is the first openly LGBTQ+ woman and first openly autistic person elected to the Pennsylvania General Assembly. Prior to her election, Benham co-founded and served as Director of Development for the Pittsburgh Center for Autistic Advocacy. She holds degrees from Bethel University, Minnesota State University, and an M.A. in Bioethics from the University of Pittsburgh.
