Jheanelle K. Wilkins represents Legislative District 20 as a Democratic member of the Maryland House of Delegates. Born in Kingston, Jamaica, on May 29, 1988, she moved to the United States at age five. Wilkins earned a Bachelor of Arts in sociology from the University of Delaware and a Master of Public Administration from American University. Before her legislative career, she worked at The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights. Appointed in January 2017, she became the first African-American woman to represent her district. She currently serves as Chair of the Ways and Means Committee and previously chaired the Legislative Black Caucus of Maryland.
