He has a Master's in Business Administration and is the retired Chief of Police of University Place, with 29 years in law enforcement. He also has 34 years of active and reserve service in the United States Army Rangers and the United States Coast Guard, from which he retired as a Captain. He and his wife have lived in the University Place/Fircrest area since 1982.
