Jim Avery, a Republican, is a former Missouri State Representative and decorated combat veteran running for Missouri State Senate, District 22, in the 2026 Republican primary. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps (1991-1995, Somalia) and the Missouri Army National Guard, deploying to Iraq (2003) and Afghanistan (2009) where he specialized in IED destruction, retiring as a Captain after 22 years. Avery earned his J.D. in 2017 and represented Missouri's 95th House district from 2003-2009. He campaigns as a "conservative warrior" committed to fighting for citizens over "special interests," notably opposing "bailing out billionaires’ sports stadiums." He also serves on the Hero's Network board.
