Jim Kallio is a former member of the Sedro-Woolley School Board, having served for 20 years until 2017. He decided not to seek reelection at that time as he was preparing for retirement. Kallio was motivated to run for the school board again following the departure of the former superintendent, Dr. Miriam Mickelson, and what he described as "divisiveness" on the board. He has stated that he feels the community was unhappy with some of the recent actions of the board.
