Jim Sorensen previously served as the Mayor of Elma, first elected in November 2015. He served for over seven years and did not seek reelection for a third term in 2023. During his tenure, Elma saw significant growth, including the expansion of the Summit Pacific Medical Center and the Eagles Landing Business District. He cited a desire for new leadership and the increased workload during the COVID-19 pandemic as reasons for not running for a third mayoral term.
