Joan B. Lovely is a Democratic State Senator representing Massachusetts' Second Essex District (Beverly, Danvers, Peabody, and Salem), serving since January 2013. An attorney, she previously served 15 years on the Salem City Council (1998–2012), including two terms as Council President and service as Acting Mayor. In the Senate she serves as Assistant Majority Leader, Chair of the Senate and Joint Committees on Rules, and Senate Chair of the Massachusetts Caucus of Women Legislators.
