Joel Wallenstein has been a Judge for the Superior Court of Los Angeles County since his appointment in 2013 and assumption of office in 2014. Prior to his judgeship, he served as a commissioner for the court from 2005 to 2013. His earlier career includes working as house counsel for the California State Compensation Insurance Fund Legal Department (2003-2005), a referee at the Los Angeles County Superior Court (1997-2002), and a deputy public defender in the Los Angeles County Public Defender's Office (1989-1997). He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Loyola Marymount University in 1983 and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of West Los Angeles School of Law in 1988.
