John D. Cherry is the incumbent Democratic member of the Michigan State Senate representing District 27, having assumed office in 2023. He previously served two terms in the Michigan House of Representatives. Born and raised in Genesee County, Cherry earned a bachelor's degree in natural resources and a master's degree in public policy from the University of Michigan. Before his legislative career, he worked for the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and co-founded the Flint Coffee Company.
