John Erickson was elected to the West Hollywood City Council on November 3, 2020. His career in public service began with an internship for the West Hollywood City Council, which led to roles as a Council Deputy to former Mayor Abbe Land and later a city staff member. He has also served as a Legislative Representative at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and as the Vice President of Public Affairs, Communications, and Marketing at Planned Parenthood Los Angeles. He is currently the Chief of Staff at Alliance for a Better Community, an organization focused on Latino community advocacy. Erickson holds a Ph.D. in American Religious History and a Dual-Master's Degree from Claremont Graduate University, as well as a B.A. from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh. His advocacy work includes serving on the national board of the National Organization for Women and as President of the ACLU of Southern California. In 2017, he was appointed by Governor Jerry Brown to the California Commission on the Status of Women and Girls.
