John Garamendi is the incumbent U.S. Representative for California's 8th Congressional District, having served in Congress since 2009. He previously served as California's Lieutenant Governor, Insurance Commissioner, and a state legislator. President Clinton appointed him Deputy Secretary of the Interior from 1995 to 1998. Raised in Mokelumne Hill, Garamendi earned a B.A. from UC Berkeley and an MBA from Harvard Business School before serving in the Peace Corps in Ethiopia.
