John Higdon is the current mayor of Matthews, having served for six years, and previously served as a town commissioner and Mayor Pro Tem. He is a registered Professional Engineer and a certified Six-Sigma Blackbelt. He graduated from North Carolina State University with a degree in Aerospace Engineering and has worked as the Vice President of Engineering for Apollo Valves. Higdon has lived in Matthews since 2001 and has been involved in various community organizations, including serving as President of the Ashley Creek Homeowners' Association and volunteering with the Boy Scouts and Charlotte-Mecklenburg School System.
