John Jeffrey "Jeff" Smythe is the former Chief of Police for the City of Burlington, a position he held for eight years before retiring in 2021. He previously had a 24-year career in law enforcement in Arizona, including serving as the Chief of Police in Show Low. Smythe holds a bachelor's degree from Arizona State University (1991) and a graduate degree from Northern Arizona University (2000). He was appointed by Governor Roy Cooper to the North Carolina Task Force for Racial Equity in Criminal Justice.
