John McCarthy

John McCarthy has served multiple terms as a Port of Tacoma Commissioner, first from 1983-1992 and again since 2018. He is the 2025 Port of Tacoma Commission President and Co-chair of The Northwest Seaport Alliance. Before rejoining the port commission, he was a Pierce County District and Superior Court judge for over 22 years. His earlier career included working as a longshoreman while earning a bachelor's degree from Seattle University and a law degree from the University of San Francisco. He is a longtime resident of Tacoma.
