John O'Connor is the Republican candidate for St. Mary's County Commissioner in District 3, Maryland, an office he previously held from 2014 to 2022. Raised on Long Island, New York, O'Connor joined the U.S. Army, serving as a Military Police Officer and reaching the rank of Sergeant. A highly decorated veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom, he received the Purple Heart and the Army Commendation Medal with Valor Device for his combat actions. Following his military service, he pursued a career in Maryland law enforcement, retiring as a Lieutenant in 2015. He earned a bachelor's degree in management from Johns Hopkins University.
