Johnathan Morgan was appointed Sheriff of Cumberland County in August 2025 to complete the unexpired term of the previous sheriff. He has served with the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office for 28 years, starting as a road patrol deputy and working his way up through every sworn officer division. Prior to his appointment as Sheriff, he was a Major and the Operations Commander. His career in public service began 30 years ago as a volunteer firefighter. He received Basic Law Enforcement Training at Fayetteville Technical Community College. He has earned Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced Law Enforcement Certificates and completed the FBI LEEDA Trilogy in leadership.
