Joseph L. Sanchez is an incumbent Democratic State Representative for New Mexico's 40th District, having served from 2019-2021 and since 2023. Born and raised in Alcalde, New Mexico, he holds multiple degrees in electrical engineering and business administration. Sanchez is the Vice Chair of the House Rural Development, Land Grants and Cultural Affairs Committee and a member of the House Appropriations & Finance and Legislative Finance Committees. His policy priorities include supporting the oil and gas industry alongside a transition to renewables, expanding rural broadband, and advocating for land grant and Native American communities.
