Joseph Lee Haywood is a small business owner who sells industrial supplies to commercial and government clients. He and his wife moved to Summerfield, North Carolina, around 2000 and consider it their hometown. Haywood previously ran for the U.S. House to represent North Carolina's 6th Congressional District as a Republican, losing in the primary on May 17, 2022. In August 2025, he was appointed Mayor of Summerfield after the resignation of the previous mayor, as he was the only candidate filed to run in the November 2025 election.
