Josh Newman is an educator, U.S. Army veteran, and former Democratic State Senator running for California Superintendent of Public Instruction in 2026. Newman represented California's 29th Senate District from 2016 to 2018 and 2020 to 2024, where he served as chair of the Senate Education Committee. He earned a bachelor's degree in history from Yale University. Currently residing in Fullerton, Newman serves as a senior fellow at UC Irvine's School of Social Ecology.
