Joy A. Jones is an incumbent judge for North Carolina's 12th Judicial District, first elected in 2014. She earned her undergraduate degree in criminal justice and political science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1980 and her J.D. from the Indiana University School of Law at Indianapolis in 1989. Her legal career began with positions in the Marion County, Indiana Prosecutor's Office and the San Diego, California District Attorney's Office. She later served as an assistant attorney general in North Carolina before entering private practice. From 2008 until her election to the bench, she ran her own law practice, Joy A. Jones, P.A. She is admitted to practice law in Indiana, California, and North Carolina.
