Kara Murphy Richards

Judge Kara Murphy Richards is the Presiding Judge for the Renton Municipal Court. Her public service career spans over 30 years, during which she has served as a Social Worker, Probation Officer, Domestic Violence Victim Advocate, and Prosecuting Attorney. She was appointed in 2019 to start Renton's first Community Court, a program designed to provide rehabilitative services for low-level offenders as an alternative to incarceration. Prior to her appointment as a full-time judge, she served as the court's pro-tem judge for 10 years. She and her husband Craig live in the Renton Highlands and have six adult children.
