Karen Stegman is a candidate for Orange County Board Of Commissioners At-Large in Carrboro, North Carolina — 2026 Primary Election. Running as Democratic.

Karen Stegman is a lifelong resident of Orange County, having grown up in Chapel Hill where she attended public schools. She earned an undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a master's degree from Boston University. Stegman served nearly two full terms on the Chapel Hill Town Council, first elected in 2017. Her professional career has focused on the public interest, including work with Orange County Family Resource Centers, improving healthcare in developing countries with IntraHealth International, and work in public health and renewable energy. She resigned from the Town Council in June 2025 after moving to Carrboro. She has received the North Carolina Governor's Award for Outstanding Volunteer Service and was named the inaugural Affordable Housing Champion by the UNC Department of City and Regional Planning. Her wife, Alyson Grine, is a North Carolina Superior Court Judge, and they have two children.
