  • Ballot Access & Electoral Reform

    Supports

Whitener supports ranked choice voting as an election reform, arguing that requiring a candidate to earn 51% of the vote forces candidates to appeal to a broader spectrum of voters.

Another reform I would support is ranked choice voting. Ranked choice voting requires a candidate to achieve 51% of the vote to win and enables the candidates to earn that 51% in second, and third choice votes, ensuring that candidates appeal to a broader spectrum of voters.

Whitener supports limiting campaign contributions for a representative office to donors within that candidate's district, so that only South Carolinians fund South Carolina legislators.

One proposal I would support is to limit campaign contributions for representative office to that candidate's district. Only South Carolinians should fund South Carolina legislators.

  • Election Integrity & Administration

  • Fiscal Responsibility & Budgeting

    Supports

Whitener's central campaign issue is the national debt. She supports a balanced budget and a 5% annual reduction in federal spending per department until spending is under control, including addressing Social Security, Medicare/Medicaid, and defense; she favors auditing the Federal Reserve.

I am committed to a reduction in federal spending of 5% per department per year until we get spending under control. We must find a way out of debt.

  • Foreign Policy & National Security

    Opposes

Whitener is non-interventionist, opposing U.S. foreign military intervention such as the actions in Iran, consistent with her Libertarian opposition to warmongering.

As a Libertarian, Whitener doesn't support foreign intervention, like the actions in Iran, but does support the concepts of voter ID laws, like what can be found in the SAVE Act.

  • Healthcare Access & Affordability

    Supports

Whitener supports decoupling health insurance from employment and healthcare from health insurance. She advocates a free market in which individuals pay cash for routine care and buy catastrophic-only insurance, and she opposes government-provided health insurance, stating that healthcare is not a right.

Decouple health insurance from health care. Decouple health insurance from employment. ... Government should not be in the health insurance business. ... Healthcare is the services provided by trained individuals ... And you are not entitled to their labor. So, no, healthcare is not a right.
