Kevin Akin is a retired steam engineer, a former carpenter and steelworker, who was born in Western Riverside County and has been active here his whole life.

A life-long community volunteer, he has been an activist or officer in dozens of organizations over the years, including medical and childcare nonprofits, hobby clubs, historic preservation advocates, and neighborhood groups. Active in four unions over his working life, he has also served many years on the board of his religious congregation, and has volunteered for many good candidates for public office.
