Kevin R. Hayden is the Suffolk County District Attorney. A lifelong Massachusetts resident, he earned his bachelor's degree from Dartmouth College in 1990 and his law degree from Boston University in 1995. He spent more than a decade in the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office, serving under DA Ralph Martin, including as Chief of the Safe Neighborhood Initiative and as an Assistant District Attorney for the Homicide Response Team, the Juvenile Unit, and Boston Municipal Court. He later worked five years in private practice as a criminal defense attorney and bar advocate, and served as General Counsel and then Chair of the state Sex Offender Registry Board. He chairs the board of Youth Options Unlimited Boston, serves as a deacon at Jubilee Christian Church in Mattapan, and coaches youth lacrosse. He lives in Roslindale with his wife Michelle and their two sons.

Hayden created the Suffolk Restorative Justice program in partnership with Communities for Restorative Justice, a voluntary, inclusive, confidential process by which non-violent offenders, victims, and community members identify and address harms from an offense.

Hayden is committed to combating gun trafficking and gun-related crime, and as District Attorney created the Boston FIRST multi-agency program to target gun traffickers and unsolved shootings and the Firearm Rapid Indictment Program to expedite serious gun cases.

Hayden views the opioid epidemic as a public health crisis requiring treatment rather than incarceration in most cases, and as District Attorney invested $450,000 to expand the Suffolk County Services over Sentences Program for substance use and mental health treatment as an alternative to prosecution.
