Kiana Maria Sears is an incumbent Democratic State Senator for Arizona's 9th district, having assumed office on March 31, 2025, after being appointed to fill a vacancy. Born in New Orleans and educated at Arizona State University, she is a longtime Mesa resident and community leader. With decades of experience in government, education, and local advocacy, she previously served nearly ten years on the Mesa Public Schools Governing Board. Sears is running for re-election in the 2026 Democratic primary to defend her seat, continue advocating for constituents, and help Democrats achieve a majority in the Arizona Senate, aiming to counter extremism.
