Lamont Wiggins is a native of Rocky Mount, North Carolina. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from North Carolina State University and a Juris Doctor degree from the North Carolina Central University School of Law. Before his judicial career, he was in the general practice of law, handling criminal and civil trials, real estate transactions, and municipal law. He served on the Rocky Mount City Council from 1997 to 2018, including four occasions as Mayor Pro Tem. He was appointed to the Superior Court bench by Governor Roy Cooper on March 29, 2018, and was subsequently elected to a full term beginning January 1, 2019.
