Larry McBurney is an incumbent Democratic member of the Iowa House of Representatives, representing District 44, a role he assumed in January 2025. He is seeking re-election in the 2026 Democratic primary. A lifelong Iowan born in Des Moines, McBurney is an executive director by profession. He and his wife, Lusita McBurney, advocate for families and victims of domestic violence. A decorated veteran, McBurney served 11 years as a Staff Sergeant in the Iowa Air National Guard, with tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. He previously served on the Urbandale City Council and Civil Rights Commission. His policy platform emphasizes public schools, reproductive rights, mental health, clean energy, and personal freedoms.
