A Republican, he previously chaired the Republican Party of Shelby County and the NE Shelby County Republicans. Mills is deeply involved in his Arlington community, serving as President of the Arlington Education Foundation and on various local committees. He also served on the State of Tennessee Nursing Board and a local hospital's Board of Governors. Regarding policy, he generally opposes abortion but acknowledges legal challenges in cases of extreme maternal danger, rape, or incest.
