Leila Namvar is an Iranian immigrant who arrived in the U.S. in 2002. After working various jobs and attending night school, she earned a master's degree in public administration and became a U.S. citizen in 2008. Namvar has worked for the City of Indio since 2005, starting as a planning technician and currently serving as a public arts program analyst. A former president of SEIU Local 721 representing Indio city employees, she is running as a Democratic candidate for California State Assembly District 47.
