Lewis "Lew" Wasserman is an attorney, educator, and public servant. He practiced law for more than 30 years, with work that included public education, labor and management, disability rights, and civil-rights litigation, serving as principal attorney in major class-action and constitutional cases. Before beginning his legal career he served as an assistant superintendent of schools. He joined the faculty at the University of Texas, where he taught graduate courses in constitutional law, public policy, educational leadership, and civil liberties, and received the Educational Finance Conference's award for outstanding scholarship in school finance. He holds a Ph.D. in Psychology from Hofstra University and a J.D. from St. John's University School of Law. He lives in Lakewood Ranch (Bradenton), Florida, and serves on the Manatee County Democratic Executive Committee; he is a former Acting Chair of the Manatee County Democratic Committee.
